There’s a lot of chatter lately about video resumes and how they are the next big thing. We agree… if they’re done well. Here are some very simple tips that you need to consider before you hit the record button:

• Wear your best suit. A traditional dark blue or gray suit is the best choice. Dress like it’s the real thing (because it is).
• Choose the right setting and background. The best case scenario is that you film your video resume in an office setting. If that’s not an option for you, then scout out the most professional background setting that you can find. The spare bedroom or home office is fine, as long as your cat isn’t climbing on the bookshelf in the background.
• Create an introduction that’s short, powerful and to the point. Just like a traditional paper resume, you only have a few seconds to catch the viewer’s attention, and then quickly get to the reasons why they should hire you.
• You really must script it out before hand. Keep your video resume to two or three minutes, and focus on just a few key bullet points.
• Don’t forget to give the viewer your contact information in the closing so that they know how to get hold of you (and hire you).

Lastly, it’s not a bad idea to hire a professional videographer to help with your V-Resume. A really well-done video resume can open doors and get you the interview.
