It may be counterintuitive, but this is a great time of year to step up your job seeking activities. Hiring managers just seem to move quickly in late December and early January. In some cases they are faced with a “use it or lose it” scenario (or more directly, fill that position or you’ll lose your requisition with the new year).

Another motivation to move and make a hire is that many companies start their planning process in early January. Managers who have a vacancy won’t be top of the list for additional headcount… and they know that. Most managers are working hard to clean up their open headcount by the end of they year.

Also working to your advantage is the reality that most candidates pull back during the holiday season. People get busy intentionally take a break from their search during the holiday. Most job seekers aren’t actively responding to job postings and pushing for interviews between Thanksgiving and New Years.

Take advantage of the reduced competition to make your mark. Go get ‘em!
